Google began rolling out skills in the Gemini app on October 13, 2026 and expects to finish by mid-November 2026. Skills in Google Workspace are now behind the schedule Google announced earlier (Rapid Release done by October 12, Scheduled Release starting October 19), and there's no new date yet.
Who gets it
- Skills in the Gemini app: all Google Workspace customers and personal Google account users, of any age. Admins have no controls for this feature.
- Skills in Workspace: Business Starter, Standard and Plus; Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus; Google AI Pro for Education; and the AI Expanded Access add-on. Only users over 18 can use it.
What's coming
In the coming weeks, Google plans to let people share Gemini app skills and to add a Google Drive integration. Google says it will post on the Workspace Updates blog when these start rolling out.
What admins should do
Google Workspace admins can read the Help Center guidance on admin controls for skills in Workspace to prepare ahead, and watch the blog for the new timeline. Google also has documentation on the transition from Gems to skills.
