Google Meet can now draft follow-up emails and send action items to Tasks after meetings
Google began rolling out next steps in Google Meet on October 5, 2026. Using Gemini, Meet can draft follow-up emails in Gmail and export action items to Google Tasks from the post-meeting screen on selected Workspace plans.
Google Workspace began rolling out next steps in Google Meet on October 5, 2026. The feature runs on Gemini and Workspace Studio. When a meeting ends, Meet can draft a follow-up email in Gmail or export action items to Google Tasks.
How it works
- The post-meeting screen has a "Routines for this meeting" section. You can turn on each next step with one tap.
- "Take notes for me" has to be on during the meeting, or no next steps will appear.
- It works for one-off and recurring meetings. You can also turn on a next step for every meeting where note-taking is on.
- There are only two next steps at launch: draft a follow-up email and add action items to Google Tasks. Google says more are coming soon.
Plans and admin controls
The feature is available on Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus and the Google AI Pro for Education add-on.
It is on by default. Admins can turn it off for a domain, organizational unit (OU) or group in the Workspace Studio admin settings or the Take notes for me setting. Users manage their next steps from the post-call screen or in the Workspace Studio Flows library.
Rollout
Google started an extended rollout on October 5, 2026 for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. It may take more than 15 days before everyone sees the feature.
