Anthropic launched a public beta of Claude for Google Workspace on October 6, 2026, adding an add-on that brings the Claude sidebar into Google Docs, Sheets and Slides for all paid Claude plans, according to the company's own announcement.
What Claude can do in each app
- In Docs, Claude can fix a sentence or restyle a heading directly in place, or propose larger rewrites as suggestion cards that users review one at a time.
- In Sheets, Claude writes formulas, builds pivot tables and native Sheets charts, and adds new tabs; for joins or data cleaning it can route data through Python and write results back into the sheet.
- In Slides, Claude builds new slides that match an existing deck's layout and theme, and checks its own work for overlapping or hard-to-read text.
Two edit-control modes
By default Claude runs in "Ask before edits" mode, showing each change as an approval card with a summary and waiting for the user's confirmation. Users can switch to "Accept all edits" mode, letting Claude work through a task and apply changes without stopping.
How to get it and who can use it
The add-on is in public beta and available on all paid Claude plans, not the free plan. It is installed from the Google Workspace Marketplace; once installed, users open a Google file and go to Extensions > Claude > Open Claude, while admins can deploy it domain-wide or to selected groups via the Google Admin console. Anthropic also released beta Google Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors that let users create and edit Google files directly from a Claude conversation; on Team and Enterprise plans, an owner must enable these connectors before members can use them. For Enterprise customers, controls such as the Compliance API, customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK) and OpenTelemetry audit export also extend to this add-on.
