Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro stop getting updates on October 13, 2026: office PCs should move to 25H2
Microsoft confirmed the September 2026 preview update is the last one for Windows 11 24H2. PCs on 24H2 Home or Pro lose security updates after October 13, 2026 and should move to 25H2.
On September 22, 2026, Microsoft updated a post on the Windows message center: the September 2026 non-security preview update, KB5124010, is the final preview update for Windows 11, version 24H2. The same post reminds readers that 24H2 Home and Pro editions reach end of support in October 2026.

- According to the 30-day reminder Microsoft posted on September 14, 2026 on the same page, Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro stop receiving updates on October 13, 2026.
- After that date, those PCs no longer get monthly updates, including security fixes against new threats.
- Enterprise and Education editions of 24H2 remain supported until October 12, 2027.
- Microsoft recommends moving 24H2 Home/Pro devices to Windows 11, version 25H2 to keep receiving monthly security and quality updates.
Who is affected
Most office PCs in small businesses ship with Windows 11 Home or Pro. If a PC is on 24H2 and has not moved to a newer version, it falls out of updates after October 13, 2026. It will keep working, but vulnerabilities found after that date will not be patched — a bigger risk for machines used for online banking, accounting software, e-invoicing or company email.
What to do before October 13
- Check the version: open Settings > System > About (or type
winverin search) and look at the Version line. If it says 24H2, it needs updating. - Update to 25H2 through Settings > Windows Update. On eligible PCs the update usually appears there; back up important data first and pick a time outside working hours.
- Keep a device list: a company with several PCs should note which machines are on 25H2 and which are not, so the accountant's PC or shared machines are not missed.
- PCs on 24H2 Enterprise or Education have until October 2027, but an update plan is still worth making.
Microsoft also notes that over the next few months some devices may need one extra restart while installing updates, because of the Secure Boot certificate update step.
