Guided Vision in Gemini Live: real-time camera assistance for blind users
Google has launched Guided Vision in Gemini Live on compatible Android devices, using the camera to deliver real-time spoken descriptions of surroundings, built with the blind and low-vision community and partner Aira.
Google has officially rolled out Guided Vision in Gemini Live on compatible Android devices. According to an October 1, 2026 post on the Google Blog, the feature provides real-time visual assistance and was developed together with the blind and low-vision community.
How it works
Users share their camera during a Gemini Live session and turn on Guided Vision to hear spoken descriptions of their surroundings and ask detailed follow-up questions. When the camera is pointed too high, too close, or off to the side, Gemini gives natural spoken prompts to help reframe the shot.
Built with the accessibility community
Google partnered with Aira to train the feature using tens of thousands of hours of visual interpretation data. More than 1,000 members of Aira's Trusted Tester network helped stress-test it, while Aira specialists worked directly with Google's team to set and evaluate safety guardrails.
How to use it
Guided Vision was previously previewed as part of the September 2026 Android feature drop and is now generally available on compatible Android devices through the Gemini Live app.
