Should I buy ChatGPT Plus? Free, Go, Plus, Pro and Business compared

Buy ChatGPT Plus if you use ChatGPT almost daily for work and keep hitting Free plan limits on file uploads, data analysis, image generation, deep research or stronger reasoning models. If you mostly chat in text, Free or the cheaper Go plan is usually enough. Pro only suits very heavy users.

This guide is compiled from OpenAI's pricing page and Help Center, the press and discussion on the Vietnamese forum VOZ. All prices, limits and model names below were checked on 27 September 2026; OpenAI changes them often, so re-check the pricing page before you pay.

How the four personal plans differ

OpenAI's pricing page splits personal plans into four tiers, each including everything in the one before:

• Free: unlimited text chats with GPT-5.6 Luna (subject to abuse guardrails), but limited uploads, image generation, voice, deep research, memory and Codex.
• Go: a low-cost plan with higher limits for everyday tools: messages with tools, uploads, image creation, data analysis, longer memory. Its Think reasoning mode uses GPT-5.6 Luna; Go does not include GPT-5.6 Sol or legacy models. The pricing page notes this plan may include ads.
• Plus: adds advanced reasoning models with GPT-6, higher message and upload limits, more complex image creation, expanded deep research and memory, Projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs, more Codex and ChatGPT Work usage, and early access to new features.
• Pro: "5x more usage" on top of Plus as the pricing page puts it, Pro reasoning with GPT-6 Astra, maximum Codex and deep research, and unlimited image creation (subject to abuse guardrails). The Help Center describes two Pro tiers: Pro $100 and Pro $200.

Key point: Free and Go both include unlimited text chats; the differences are in tools and reasoning models.

Plan and price comparison table

Prices below are copied exactly as chatgpt.com/pricing displayed them when opened from Vietnam, checked on 27 September 2026. OpenAI's Help Center lists Plus at $20/month; what you see may differ by country, currency and purchase channel.

A few billing details from the official pages:

• Go, Plus and Pro are monthly only; OpenAI currently offers no annual billing or multi-month prepayment for them. Annual plans exist only for Business and Enterprise.
• The pricing page says Go, Plus, Pro and Business can be paid with any major credit card.
• API usage is not included in any of these plans and is billed separately.

Should I buy ChatGPT Plus, Go or Pro?

Look at what you actually do with ChatGPT in a typical week:

Stay on Free if you mainly ask questions, rewrite emails and summarise short text.

Choose Go if you often run out of uploads, image generations or spreadsheet analysis but do not need the strongest models. It is the cheapest paid plan, at the cost of possible ads and no GPT-5.6 Sol or legacy models.

Choose Plus if ChatGPT is a daily work tool: reading long contracts, analysing Excel files, multi-step reports, deep research, Projects or custom GPTs. It is also the lowest plan with advanced GPT-6 reasoning. On VOZ, some members say they cancelled Plus when usage dropped and resubscribed when work required it (community experience, not a rule).

Choose Pro only if you already use Plus and keep hitting limits, or need maximum Codex and deep research. For most office workers Pro is overkill. Note that since 10 September 2026 OpenAI has paused new sign-ups and upgrades to Pro $200 (Pro 20x); Pro $100 remains available.

ChatGPT Business for small companies

If several people at your company use ChatGPT, do not buy one Plus plan and share the password (see the risks below). OpenAI's pricing page says Go, Free and Plus are designed for individuals; Business and Enterprise are for companies, with Business starting at 2 users and aimed at teams of 2–200 employees.

According to the pricing page, Business provides a dedicated workspace, SAML SSO and MFA, centralised billing, usage analytics, connections to Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub and Microsoft 365, and no training on your business data by default. For personal plans, the pricing page says content is used to train models, with an opt-out available.

Besides the Standard seat there is a Premium seat: ₫2,595,000 / month billed annually or ₫3,245,000 / month billed monthly, "5x more usage than standard"; seat types can be mixed.

Buying and paying from Vietnam

• Is it available in Vietnam? Yes. Vietnam is on OpenAI's list of ChatGPT supported countries, and the Go help page says Go is available in all supported countries. VnExpress International reported that Go opened for direct sign-up on the web in Vietnam in October 2025.
• Which currency? The Multi-currency billing page lists VND (₫) for Vietnam for subscriptions bought on chatgpt.com. If you subscribe in the iOS or Android app, Apple App Store or Google Play manages and bills the subscription, so pricing and cancellation follow that store.
• How to pay? The official page lists credit and debit cards for all countries. On VOZ, members report paying for Plus with ordinary Visa/Mastercard cards; the official page does not list other local payment methods for Vietnam, so do not assume they exist.
• How to upgrade: sign in to ChatGPT, click your profile icon, choose Upgrade Plan and pick a plan. Manage your plan and invoices under Settings, Account or Billing.

The supported-countries page says accessing, or offering access to, ChatGPT outside the listed countries may get an account blocked or suspended, so subscribe with your own account and your own payment method.

Cancelling or downgrading safely

According to OpenAI's cancellation guide:

1. Cancel where you bought it. Bought on chatgpt.com: Settings, Billing, Cancel plan. Bought via the App Store: cancel in Apple Subscriptions; via Google Play: cancel in Google Play.
2. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid being charged for the next period.
3. Uninstalling the app does not cancel. Deleting your ChatGPT account does not cancel an Apple subscription either; cancel in the store first.
4. Cancelling does not refund. Paid features stay until the end of the paid period. Refunds need a separate request; eligibility depends on where you bought and your location.
5. Downgrading from Plus or Pro to Go gives no partial refund: your current plan runs until the end of the cycle, then switches to Go.

Be careful with shared or "cheap" accounts

Many sellers offer shared ChatGPT Plus accounts or "upgrade for you" services below the official price. The terms say:

• OpenAI's Terms of Use say you may not share your account credentials or make your account available to anyone else, and you are responsible for all activity on the account.
• The Pro help page repeats that the terms prohibit account sharing and reselling access; OpenAI uses guardrails that can temporarily restrict accounts when misuse is detected.

In practice: a shared account can be restricted or locked with no way for you to appeal, since you are not the owner; others logged in can see your chats and files; and you cannot cancel or request refunds yourself. On VOZ, when someone asked to share an account, one member replied that plan usage limits make sharing impractical. Never put contracts, customer data or internal information into an account that is not yours.
