Gemini Pro for students: which plan you get in Vietnam and how to claim it

Students in Vietnam can get 12 months free, but the plan is Google AI Plus, not Google AI Pro (the free Pro year is only for eligible US college students). Vietnam is not on the excluded list; the offer must be redeemed by December 31, 2026, and requires SheerID student verification plus a valid payment method.

Which plan is "Gemini Pro for students" really

"Gemini 3.1 Pro" is the name of an AI model; what you subscribe to is a Google AI plan, managed through Google One. The Vietnamese Gemini subscriptions page lists four tiers:

Prices are quoted exactly as shown on the Vietnamese page ("tháng" means month). Google's blog post of August 19, 2026 says eligible US college students get one year of Google AI Pro free ("valued at $19.99/mo"), while eligible students outside the US get one year of Google AI Plus free. In Vietnam, the free plan is Plus.

Are students in Vietnam eligible

The Google One student offer terms (last updated August 19, 2026) cover students where the offered plan is supported, except Bolivia, Albania, Canada, Hong Kong, Macau and Tunisia. Vietnam is not excluded and appears in the Google One Help list of countries where Google AI Plus is available. The Vietnamese Gemini for Students page also shows the offer, with the post-offer price in dong.

Note that Google reserves the right to decide eligibility. Being on the list does not guarantee every school or account will be approved; check the actual result on the sign-up page.

Besides the 12-month Plus trial, the help page lists two paid student offers outside the US: a discounted Google AI Pro plan for up to 4 consecutive years, and a Google AI Pro plus YouTube Premium student bundle (Vietnam is on that bundle's list). The discounted price for Vietnam is not published on the public pages we read; it appears only after signing in.

What you need before signing up

According to the official terms and help page, you need to:

• Be 18 or older and enrolled at a higher-education institution.
• Verify your student status through SheerID, a third-party verification service, using a valid school email address.
• Have a personal Google Account. The offer is not available on a school-issued Workspace for Education account, so the school email is only for verification; the plan attaches to your personal account.
• Have a Google Payments account with a qualifying payment method at sign-up, even though you are not charged during the 12 months.
• Not be in a Google One family group, not use a supervised account, and not hold Google One through a third party (such as Google Fi or Pixel Pass).

The Gemini for Students FAQ says both new users and students whose 2025 AI Pro trial has ended may qualify, and that you must re-verify each year to keep the offer.

What the free student plan includes

Per the Vietnamese Gemini for Students page, the free Google AI Plus student plan includes:

• 2x higher Gemini usage limits than the free plan.
• 400 GB of cloud storage shared across Gmail, Drive and Photos.
• Access to Gemini Omni for video generation for the year.
• Unlimited uploads for Study Notebooks, image generation and Gemini Live.

Plus also includes Gemini Notebook with more notebooks and Audio Overviews than the free tier. Gemini Notebook is the former NotebookLM, renamed by Google on July 16, 2026.

Two limits to know: the terms say usage limits during the offer may differ from paid members and may change without notice; the help page says recurring add-ons (such as upgrading Plus to 2 TB) are not available with a student offer.

How to sign up for the Gemini student offer step by step

These steps follow the "Claim a Google One student offer" help page:

1. Sign in with your personal Google Account (not your school-issued account).
2. Go to one.google.com/ai-student, or use the claim button on the Gemini for Students page.
3. Choose a student offer (the 12-month Google AI Plus trial, or a discounted Pro option if shown).
4. When asked, verify your student status through SheerID by entering your school email and following the prompts.
5. Complete the subscription flow, adding a payment method if your account has none.
6. Open your Google One plan settings, confirm the offer is applied and note its end date.

If SheerID does not approve you, Google points to SheerID's FAQ. On the Google One community forum, a user has reported the offer not applying after SheerID approval; that is a community report, not official guidance, so if it happens, contact Google One support rather than signing up repeatedly.

If you already have another Google One trial, claiming a student offer replaces it. If you pay for AI Pro, you keep Pro until the end of your billing cycle before moving to the Plus trial.

What happens after 12 months

The terms say that when the offer period ends, your payment method is automatically charged the standard monthly price of the plan for your country, unless consent is required by law. For Vietnam, the Gemini for Students page states the automatic charge as "132.000 ₫/tháng" (checked September 27, 2026).

Keep in mind:

• To avoid being charged, cancel before the end date. If you cancel mid-offer, the plan usually stays active until the offer period ends.
• If you cancel while over the free storage limit, you cannot save anything new to Gmail, Drive or Photos until you free up space or buy a plan.
• If you upgrade from the trial to a paid plan, you cannot get the trial again.

Should you buy Gemini Pro, and how Pro differs from Ultra

For most students, the free Plus year is enough to try studying with AI. Paying for AI Pro makes sense only if you often hit Plus limits, need 5 TB of storage, want Gemini inside Gmail and Docs, or need higher Gemini Notebook limits. Ultra targets very heavy users: its starting price is several times Pro's, in exchange for 5x or 20x Pro's limits and features such as Deep Think.

If you are not eligible

• The free Gemini plan (₫0) still includes Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas and 15 GB of storage; the standard Gemini Notebook is also free to use.
• Ask your school's IT office whether your school account has any AI tools enabled, since school accounts cannot take this offer.
• If you need higher limits, sign in at one.google.com/ai-student to see the student discount on AI Pro before paying full price.
